We are always in the process of updating this list of directories. We depend on people emailing us updates to keep these entries accurate, and to expand them. If you have something to contribute, let us know at ask@freegan.info.
Please let us know if you know a store has closed, if their dumpsters are now locked, or if there are great new locations you’ve found. Also, let us know if you get flack from store managers or local divers that indicate a location is being over-dived. If this happens, we will drop it from the directory. Thanks!
This directory is maintained by a small group of New York City freegans, so it’s fairly New York-centric. While we get to some of the neighborhoods frequently, other neighborhoods we don’t, so we depend on input from users of these pages. All comments are based on one or more individual’s experience.
Please DO NOT reprint this list in commercial publications, but feel free to copy and distribute it individually.
PLEASE, respect the CARDINAL RULE of trashpicking — DON’T MAKE A MESS! Open bags carefully and re-close them. Make it look like you were never there, so the place you are recovering waste from won’t chase away foragers in the future!
Oh, and don’t forget Food Not Bombs is in practically every city giving out food regularly. Check out this link to FNB Local Groups.

DEAR FRIENDS: KEEP FREEGAN.INFO ONLINE!!
If you like this website, or come to our events, consider helping keep freegan.info afloat.
We’re still trying to keep up with our basic expenses by raising a few funds here: www.gofundme.com/f/help-keep-freeganinfo-online
We operate on a nearly zero budget, we’re all volunteers, we only use spaces we can access for free, and we certainly don’t buy anything for our events – but… our web tools cost us money.
We provide events for hundreds of people each year (and have been since 2005!!) and salvage thousands of pounds of food and other goods each year.
Can you help us stay online?
